"Laurie Lindeen writes the same way Zuzu’s Petals used to rock: With authentic detail, endearing sincerity, and the innate ability to reflect a certain place at a certain time (with a voice that belongs only to her)."
—Chuck Klosterman, author of Fargo Rock City
"Laurie Lindeen writes beautifully about both sides of the rock and roll mirror -- how it feels to be in the audience looking up and what it's like on the stage looking down. She writes with the honesty of a Who song, the humor of the Ramones, and the eye for detail of Joni Mitchell. PETAL PUSHER is music set to words."
—Bill Flanagan, author of A & R: A Novel and New Bedlam

New York, NY: Join rocker, author and MS survivor Laurie Lindeen for a special night of entertainment to celebrate the paperback release of her acclaimed rock memoir, PETAL PUSHER, her honest, often hilarious recounting of her days as guitarist/frontwoman with the ‘90s Minneapolis-based, female rock trio, Zuzu’s Petals. Laurie will read a bit from PETAL PUSHER, a friend will compliment the reading, and Mary Lucia will conduct her famous spontaneous interviews. Minneapolis' finest John Eller will perform songs from the "soundtrack" of the book and accompany Laurie throughout the evening. The Cast of off-Broadway musical "Factory Girl" will perform a song. Children's music guru and founding member of the Del Fuegos, Dan Zanes, will sing a song from the '70s.
Miss Ivy Marvel of Tin Sisters (Laurie's star creative writing student, now living in Brooklyn) will perform a hard rock song with her ukulele. Kraig Johnson of Run Westy Run/Golden Smog/ Joseph Arthur will play a song. Lizz Winstead will perform a monologue. Jen Trynin (author of the indie hit "Better Than Nothing" and author of the memoir EVERYTHING I'M CRACKED UP TO BE (Harcourt, '06) will also be on hand.
PETAL PUSHER is a timeless book, an insiders’ look at what it takes to be in a band –specifically an all-female indie pop band trying to make it during the ‘90s grunge explosion. In the book, Lindeen discovers she has MS, which she keeps a secret from the press, and meets and marries kindred spirit Paul Westerberg of the Replacements. Ultimately, she trades her "rock life" for that of a mother and student; she now holds a creative writing degree and is working on her first novel.
Since its release, PETAL PUSHER has received rave reviews and become the favorite of book clubs ranging from the "Nordstrom’s bra fitters reading group" to older ladies’ clubs reading the book to find out what their rock-obsessed daughters are experiencing.
For a word with Laurie or copies of PETAL PUSHER, or Zuzu’s Petals 2008 best-of CD, Kicking Our Own Asses (Rhino), please give me a shout!
